Alice Mae Bishop Casteel

Alice Mae Bishop Casteel of Moore, SC passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024 at the age of 97. She was born March 3, 1927 in St. Charles, VA to the late George and Mary Mulligan Bishop, and was the widow of the late Robert Silas Casteel, Sr., her beloved husband for 61 years.

Her love of cooking, baking, and caring for others, along with her hardworking attitude, led her to become a cook in the cafeteria of Garfield High School. Later, and for the majority of her career, Alice took these skills to a Nursing Home in Leesburg, VA. She worked until she was nearly 80 years old.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Linda Gale Casteel Tranthem of Moore, SC; sons, Kenneth Ronald Casteel (Viann) of Rockville, MD and Robert Silas Casteel, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Harpers Ferry, WV; grandchildren, Yvonne Ping (Todd), Robert Silas Casteel, III, Sheryl Casteel Russel, Kenneth R. Casteel, Jr., and Sabrina Isidro; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Larry Tranthem. 

Visitation will be 1:00-1:45pm on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow at 2:00pm in the chapel, conducted by Rev. Grover Timms.
