Anne Cubitt Martin, 79, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Spartanburg, SC on August 12th, 1944 to the late Edward Earl Cubitt, Sr., Louise West Cubitt Hodge, and Jim Hodge. Anne met the love of her life and husband of 60 years, Gerald “Jerry” Kenneth Martin while playing basketball at Jenkins Junior High. A graduate of Spartanburg High School and Winthrop University, where she earned a degree in education, Anne became a lifelong educator. For thirty years, she touched the lives of many young students in the classrooms of Byrnes High School and McCracken Junior High School. Anne was a mom to many and happiest when surrounded by people she loved. Her love language was food and her kitchen was never closed. She was an avid tennis player and golfer, notably remembered for her four hole-in-ones. She and Jerry enjoyed spending time at Lanyair Country Club and The Creek Golf Club. Anne was a devoted member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church and The Episcopal Church of the Advent. Her greatest joy was her three daughters, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Martin, daughters Anna Garland Hough (Taylor), Renn Kronsberg Strickland (Daniel), Lucy Freeman (Ian); her grandchildren Anne Taylor and Garland Hough, Jack Kronsberg, and West and Louise Freeman; and great-grandchild Camila Delgado. Anne was predeceased by her brother Buddy Cubitt (Dodie Cubitt Satterfield) and survived by her siblings Linda Davis (Joe), Jamie Hodge (Laura), Mark Hodge (Suzette), Penn Hodge (Cynthia), and Mia Thompson (Jim). A private family service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Advent. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In remembrance of Anne, memorial contributions may be made to Mobile Meals of Spartanburg https://www.mobile-meals.org/donor-info or to a charity of one’s choice.
