Arthur Wayne Messick, 79, of Spartanburg, SC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 14, 2023, surrounded by his family at his home. Born on March 27, 1944, to the late Daniel Ray Messick and Nettie Yarborough Messick. Wayne, “King Arthur on Good Days, and King Arthuritis on Bad Days,” as he was affectionately known by all as a jokester, always trying to bring a smile to someone. His favorite question was “Who do you love more than me?”. With the answers he received from thousands if not millions he always took the opportunity to tell people about the Lord and how wonderful he would be one day. His bible life verse was Isaiah 40:31. He always felt Fantastic and had a smile on his face. He enjoyed a full life with his wife “Mama” as he commonly called her, for 51 years of marriage June 2, 2023. Another saying was “Work was a four-letter word, and I was told by my Daddy four letter words were bad, so I never worked a day in my life. I only had Fun!”. At 18 he enlisted in the Navy and fought in the Vietnam war aboard the Iwo Jima. After discharge he went on to work at his uncle’s service station, where he met his wife who worked as a waitress at the diner across the street. He then opened his own service station known as Messick’s Service Center. After closing he went into several sales positions and was recognized as top salesman and Sales Master amongst all the companies. He then opened a game room and later traveled the continental USA delivering trucks for Oilmen Truck Tanks. Lastly, he opened another service station known as Union St. Station, from which he retired. He loved his family with all his heart and showed it. His Virginia family held a special place in his heart as he always referred to it as “God’s Country”. He dropped out of school in the sixth grade to care for his ailing mother along with a brother and sister. When his father became ill, he cared for him in his home, until he had to be put in a nursing home, then he visited every single day until bedtime. He took “Mama” to Disney World for their honeymoon and each year after for 30 years, because she fell in love with Mickey Mouse. His children, grandchildren, and great grandson were his pride and joy. Katherine was Katie May, Daniel was Little Man, Cassidy was Cassey, in his eyes and if he could’ve done it Barrett would’ve been Victor Wayne. He included his family in his joy of riding motorcycles, fishing, baseball, following NASCAR events, and traveling. Christmas was always a special time for him. He loved bringing smiles to all. He was a devoted Husband, Daddy, Papa, and Great Papa, and member of The Gate Church and served as a volunteer EMT with Arcadia Rescue Squad. Surviving Arthur is his wife, Sandra Kay Robinson Messick, daughters Tina M Taylor (Lawrence) of Greer, SC and Danielle Simpson of Chesnee, SC. His grandchildren Katherine Iskersky (Nick) of Charleston, SC, Daniel Messick of Spartanburg, SC, and Cassidy Ligon of Greer, SC.
