Beverly Folger Renfro, 84, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away peacefully March 8, 2025, at Eden Terrace, Spartanburg, SC.
Born in Spartanburg on July 31, 1940, Beverly was the daughter of the late Taylor McDuffie Folger and Jean Foy Folger and the widow of John F. Renfro, Jr. Beverly’s life was defined by her love for family, community, and animals leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Beverly and John were married in 1960 and together they raised three sons: John “Trip” F. Renfro III, MD (Suzanne D., MD), McDuffie “Mac” Renfro (Marianna), and Foy F. Renfro (Mark Bradshaw, MD). Lovingly known as “Grandy” by her family, she was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Sloan Spencer (Danny), Sarah Renfro, Emma Renfro, Mary Taylor Renfro (Austin Trout), Anna Renfro, and Brooks Renfro.
“Grandy” cherished her time with her grandchildren especially the memories of their visits to the family farm in Gowensville where she and John lived for over 20 years. She enjoyed fox hunting with the Greenville County Hounds, singing in the choir at The Episcopal Church of The Holy Cross in Tryon, and tirelessly caring for their many dogs, cats, and horses and the beautiful plants and flowers around the farmhouse. Her love for animals was matched only by her deep affection for her family.
A devoted member of the Spartanburg community, Beverly was involved in many local organizations including the Spartanburg Humane Society, Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, and the Junior League of Spartanburg. She also supported The Chapman Cultural Center, Women Giving for Spartanburg (Spartanburg County Foundation), and Upstate Therapy Dogs. One of her favorite volunteer activities was visiting senior living facilities with her therapy dog, Boogie, to share the joy and comfort that only pets can offer. She loved her hometown and was dedicated to making it a better place for those around her.
In addition to her sons and grandchildren, Beverly is survived by two sisters, Maxine Folger Nash (Douglas) and Nela “Stormy” Folger Balling (Jack).
Beverly’s family would like to express special thanks and gratitude to Pam Norris for her loving care over the years as well as to Cindy Hughes, Cassey Martin and all the caregivers at Eden Terrace who provided comfort and support during her final years.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be conducted on Thursday June 26, 4:00PM at First Presbyterian Church: 393 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. A visitation will be held following the service. A private committal will be held at Cemetery Hill in Clemson, SC.
