Bobby Gerald "Gerry" Gentry, 82, a man of unwavering faith, kindness, and a heart of gold, peacefully journeyed to his eternal home on September 13, 2023. Born on May 11, 1941, in a house in the woods, Gerry was a beloved son of James Williams Gentry, Jr. and Geneva Stone Gentry. For 25 years, Gerry dedicated himself to the BI-LO on Reidville Road, where he formed lasting connections with colleagues and customers alike. His work was more than a job; it was an opportunity to touch the lives of those he encountered with his warmth and kindness. Gerry's faith was an essential part of his life, and he was a cherished member of Valley Falls Baptist Church. His love for reading the Bible, attending church services, and sharing in the joy of singing were sources of deep spiritual fulfillment. Gerry loved supporting the Clemson Tigers, Carolina Panthers, and Dale Earnhardt. Another passion that brought Gerry joy was watching the legendary John Wayne on the silver screen. Gerry is survived by his nephew, Thomas A. Pennington, and Thomas's wife, Darla. Their presence brought joy and companionship to Gerry's life. He loved visiting and spending time with the family. Jerry’s demeanor was one of love and light to everyone that had the pleasure of meeting him. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Joel Allen Gentry, and Michael Earl Gentry, as well as a sister, Joan Gentry Pack. Gerry's family extends their heartfelt appreciation to his caregivers at the Charles Lea Center and Spartanburg Regional Hospice. Their dedication and compassion provided Gerry with comfort, support, and enriching his life. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Gerry’s life during the visitation on September 17th, 2023, from 2:00PM to 3:00PM at the J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00PM in the Chapel, conducted by Greg Bolton.
