Brenda Gail Fowler

December 21, 1943 — June 28, 2023

Brenda Gail Fowler, 79, of Marion NC and Fredericksburg VA, was called home to be with her family in Heaven on June 28th 2023. Brenda was surrounded by family and passed peacefully shortly after prayer.

Brenda was born on December 21st 1943 to William Edward West and Bessie Ellen Garrett in Spartanburg, SC. She was one of seven siblings.

Brenda and her husband, Buford “Gene” Fowler Sr., got married in 1963. They were married for 54 years. Brenda was a stay at home mom and enjoyed spending time with her children and their friends. Many memories were made over the years, from time spent at the lake to watching late night movies and hanging out eating around her kitchen table. She was known as “momma” to all her kid’s friends. Brenda considered them all her own.

There is nothing she enjoyed more than gardening and her grandchildren. She spent many long days planting flowers, making all her yards look beautiful. She loved all flowers, but her favorites were irises, hydrangeas, and wisteria. She loved purple, everything purple, or as she liked to call it, “pureple”.

She was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She always spoke of them with pride and joy. It always made her so happy to spend time visiting with them and sharing stories.

In the last few years, she really enjoyed coloring, doing word search puzzles, going to visit her sisters in SC, and going to the beach. She spent many late nights listening to music and singing with her family. She was very close to her sleeping buddy, Grace (her granddaughter’s dog).

Brenda was someone people came to for advice, she provided wisdom and peace to those that needed it. She always pointed people to the Lord Jesus.

We know that she is in Heaven cultivating the most gorgeous “pureple” garden, sitting in the garden sipping on a Coke with Grampie and all her family.

Anyone that knew her, knew that she was the most loving, caring, and genuine soul. She is loved as deeply as she is missed.

Brenda is survived by daughters Jodi Mathews and Sandy Hildenbrand, sons, Buford E. (Gene) Fowler, Jr., Philip Fredrick Fowler, and William Lanford Fowler. She is survived by her adored sister Sandra Tweedy, and many nieces and nephews. Brenda is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, whom she loved very much. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bessie West, siblings, Mary Chapman, Ruby West, Billy West, Maxi West, and infant brother Gene; and a daughter, Carol Fowler.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 5th, 2-2:45PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the Chapel at 3:00PM.
