Bryan Scott Poteat, affectionately known as “Scottie,” of Roebuck, SC, age 67, passed away peacefully after a long battle with a respiratory illness on April 4th, 2025.
Born and raised in Roebuck, Scottie was a proud graduate of Dorman High School, where he developed a lifelong love for his community and his craft. Scottie had an extensive career in the construction industry, where he worked for well-known companies such as GE and Shaw Group. His dedication to his work and his craftsmanship earned him the respect of his colleagues, and he took great pride in the projects he was a part of. Scottie’s work ethic and commitment to quality were evident in everything he did, both professionally and personally. Scottie loved to hunt, fish, and play bluegrass music, often picking his guitar. Scottie was a beloved father and grandfather, and his family meant the world to him. He is survived by his sister, Teresa Riner of NC, and his children, Kelly Louise Poteat and Brian “Scottie” Poteat. As a grandfather, Scottie was incredibly proud of his grandchildren: Zanah Noelle Chavis, Helena Kinley Chavis, Sofia Fenix Poteat, Dahlia Estrella Poteat, and Saul Emanuel Poteat. His love for them was immeasurable, and he cherished the time spent with each of them, sharing his wisdom and teaching them about the world around them. Scottie was preceded in death by his mother, the late Mary Helen Poteat, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family and friends remember him as a kind, generous, and hardworking man with a great sense of humor and a love for life. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched, and he will forever be remembered for his warmth, his laughter, and his unwavering love for his family.
A Celebration of Life for Scottie will be held at The J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Rd, Roebuck, SC on April 11th, 2025, at 10:00am.
