Calvin Winford Thornton

Spartanburg, SC- Calvin Winford Thornton, 77, husband of Dorothy Sullivan Thornton, died Saturday, May 7, 2022 at his home.

Born August 28, 1944 in Spartanburg, SC, Sonny was a son of the late Charles Thornton and Dorothy Fletcher Rainwater. He was a glider pilot who also loved skydiving and riding his motorcycle. Sonny was a mason and Shriner.

He was a loving husband and father, and will be sorely missed by those he leaves behind.

In addition to his wife, Dottie, Sonny is survived by his sons, Kevin Thornton and Brian Haynie, both of Spartanburg, SC; daughters, Angie Emory (Michael) of Spartanburg, SC and Melanie Parkkonen (Aaron) of Inman, SC; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Bobby Rainwater (Brenda) of Spartanburg, SC; and a sister, Carolyn Willard of Woodruff, SC.

He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Thornton, Jr.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 11^th, 1:30-2:30PM at Dunbar Funeral Home.

Graveside services will follow at 3:30PM in Ft. Prince Memorial Gardens.
