Carey Elizabeth "Beth" Petty Patterson

Carey Elizabeth “Beth” Petty Patterson, 72, of Inman, SC passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2024. She was born in Spartanburg, SC on January 24, 1952, the daughter of the late Roy Petty and Carey Henson Petty. 

A graduate of Pacolet High School, Beth went on to earn her bachelor’s in library science from Mars Hill University. She entered the public school system as an Elementary School educator. Beth would often talk about how much she loved teaching “the littles” and special needs students. After 40 years of devoted service to Spartanburg and Union counties, she retired. 

Beth instructed dogs and handlers in advanced competition obedience for over 25 years. Her dogs earned titles in conformation, tracking, obedience, scent work, and rally. On Beth’s obedience journey, she and her dogs earned eleven Utility Dog Excellent titles. Her heart dog was the Doberman, but her “comic relief” dog – the one she adored – was the Italian Greyhound. 

She is survived by her loving family and friends. Beth lived a simplistic, private life; she was known for her generous, helpful heart and many came to her seeking her wise, logical advice.

Visitation will be 12:00-12:45 pm on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at J. M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00pm in the chapel, conducted by Rev. Miriam Mick.
