Caroline Johnson Compton Spartanburg - Caroline Johnson Compton, daughter of Catherine Johnson Compton and the late Phillip Andrew Compton, entered into eternal peace on February 18th. She was born June 10, 1988 in Spartanburg, SC. She attended Dorman High School and graduated from Clemson University in 2011 with a degree in Secondary Education –English. Caroline was active in the Spartanburg Youth Theatre and in the District Six Chorus. She returned to teach English at her alma mater, Dorman High School. She was happiest in her classroom sharing her love of Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, and Emerson. Caroline adored her students and touched many lives in positive ways during her teaching career. She was chosen on Senior Night on numerous occasions as her students’ favorite teacher. To quote one student, “If it wasn’t for Ms. Compton I don’t think I would have made it through high school. Through all the struggles she had a smile on her face- she got more joy out of helping others than helping herself.” Caroline rescued several cats and dogs and was a fierce lover of animals. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her mother; her brother, Drew Compton; her sister, Ashley Compton; her grandparents, George and Vicki Johnson; her niece, Emory Grace Compton and her nephew, Parker Compton. Caroline is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. She leaves behind her loving and devoted dog, Bella Jack, her fish, Figmet, and her cat, Cooper. On March 3rd her former students have planned a celebration of her life at 3 pm in Barnet Park. The family will have a private memorial at a later date. Caroline’s quote was, “All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen”-Emerson.
