SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Carolyn Belle Rhodes Roberts, a native of Tryon, N.C., passed away peacefully on November 30, 2021 in the excellent care of the healthcare team at the Spartanburg Medical Center after a brave six-month journey with metastatic breast cancer. She was 78. She was the daughter of the late William Clarence Rhodes of Tryon, N.C., and the late Ramona Edna Brock Rhodes of Spartanburg, S.C. She was the widow of the late Dr. Dale Alexander Roberts of Spartanburg, S.C. She taught music at Cowpens and Pacolet elementary schools for nearly 35 years and also shared her musical gifts at Spartanburg’s Episcopal Church of the Advent in many ways through the years, namely as carillon bell player and founder and first director of the St. Cecilia Choir. She is survived by her daughter, Hannah Brock Roberts Brockow (Frédéric) of Montreal, Canada; her sister, Patricia Rhodes Williams (Roger) of Advance, N.C.; three nieces, Claudia Woodman of Denver, Co., Elaine Williams Phelps (Mike) of Clemmons, N.C., Audrey Williams (Amy) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and two nephews, Jefferson Woodman (Lisa) and Andrew Woodman. As the immediate family resides in Canada, in lieu of flowers, it is heartfully requested to please honor Mrs. Roberts’ memory solely through donations to her beloved Church of the Advent. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 10th at the Church of the Advent. To protect those at risk in attendance, all attendees are lovingly requested to wear a face covering over both nose and mouth throughout the indoor portion of the service.
