Spartanburg, SC- Carroll Orin Cassell, 85, husband of Anna Shadoan Cassell, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Born January 27, 1932 in Campobello, SC, Carroll was a son of the late C. Mitchell and Effie Bradey Cassell. He honorably served his country in the US Army. Carroll was employed with N.S.A for 37 years where he served as a cryptanalyst. During that time, he was acknowledged for developing a code in Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. Carroll loved to work crossword puzzles. In addition to his wife, Carroll is survived by his children, Elaine Turner (Michael) of Awendaw, SC, Ross Cassell of Spartanburg, SC, Doug Cassell (Sandra) of Boiling Springs, SC, Anita Cassell of Spartanburg, SC, and Alan Cassell (Amy) of Campbell, CA; and grandchildren, Candi Thompson (Michael) of Winston Salem, NC and Caitlin Cassell of Campbell, CA. He was predeceased by a son, Phillip Cassell; a brother; and five sisters. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 27th, 1PM at Roebuck Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Dr. Tim Williams. The family will receive friends following the service.
