Spartanburg, SC—Catherine Frances Sauer, 84, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 after an inspirational battle with cancer. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 20, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Catherine E. Shawkey. She attended Avonworth High School and was a graduate of Pinkerton Business School. She was a faithful long-time employee to Cardio-Medical Associates and the Urology Center of Spartanburg. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where she loved serving as a Eucharistic minister and meeting with the Lamb of God Prayer Group. Kay was a loving wife of Richard Charles Sauer, Jr. who passed away in 2012. Surviving are her 3 children: Deborah Ann Hudson (Mark) of Pickens, SC, Richard “Rick” Charles Sauer, III (Rhonda) of Peachtree City, GA, and Linda Kay Earnhardt (Dell) of Duncan, SC. She was a beloved Grandma to 16 grandchildren: Katie, Josh, Caroline, Victoria, Mariah, John, Anna, Ben, Miriam, Jessica, Megan, Audrey, Christian, Clark, A.J., Luke as well as a Great Grandma to 7. She is survived by 2 sisters, Marlene Docherty (Hugh) of Pittsburgh, PA and JoAnn Caye of Westminster, MD. These are a few of her favorite things: Sharing her faith as well as her love of Mary with others, EWTN, chocolate, and sitting by the ocean. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church with Father David Whitman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials in remembrance of Kay may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund, 161 North Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
