Charles Morgan Spartanburg - Charles Morgan, 79, died peacefully in his home Thursday afternoon surrounded by the love of his adoring family. Born in 1939, Charles was raised on Connecticut Avenue and, after graduating from Spartanburg High School, pursued undergraduate and graduate degrees from Princeton University and Tulane University respectively. Passionate about literature and languages, he taught English at Converse College for over fifty years, during his tenure serving (sometimes happily, sometimes not) on just about every committee imaginable. Charles was a son of the late Martha and Elford Morgan. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly forty-five years, Paula, and their two daughters, Molly Fisher and Mamie Morgan. He is survived too by his son-in-laws (or, as he referred to them, “allies,” in a family full of women) Gavin Fisher and Alan Hester, along with his precious grandchildren, Morgan and Luke Fisher. He leaves behind a brother, Elford Morgan, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. We would be remiss not to note Charles’s other, even larger family of friends and colleagues, with whom he shared much memory-making, laughter, and breaking of bread. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, May 6, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg. Due to his dedicated love of travel and the doctors, nurses, and staff who so amazingly cared for him, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Hospice Home; 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or the Charles Morgan Endowed Travel Fund, Office of Institutional Advancement, at Converse College; 580 E.
