Clara Sarita Woodward Shipman, 87, of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Mrs. Shipman was born in Union, SC, a daughter of the late Madison H. Woodward and Clara Sinclair Woodward.
A devoted Christian, she was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church for over 40 years. She was employed in the engineering department of Duke Power for over 20 years. After retirement, Mrs. Shipman flourished in her art, knitting, crocheting, and as an amateur painter.
She is survived by her daughters, Natalie Metcalf (Preston) of Pauline and Debra Watts (Lee) of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Scott (Katie), Cole (Chloe), Gary (Christina), Kaitlyn (Michael), Ryan (Lacey), and Drew (Lindsey); great-grandchildren, Eli, Stella, Jacob, Nathaniel, Reagan, Jamey, Ryder, and Elaina. She is also survived by her sisters, Karen Long of Florida and Lane Conn of Greenville; and many nieces and nephews, including her very dear nephew, Jay Woodward.
Mrs. Shipman was preceded in death by her first husband of 47 years, Marcus LeRoy “Roy” Coleman; and her previous husband, Edward Shipman; a sister, LaNoma Watson; and her brothers, Patton Cormac Woodward and Jacob “Jake” Henry Woodward, III.
Memorial Services will be 2:00pm on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church. A reception will immediately follow in the Church Gallery.
