Claude Richard “Buzz” Canup, Jr., 73, of Greer, SC died peacefully at home on December 25, 2017. Born in Anderson, SC, on March 16, 1944, he was the son of the late Claude Richard “Red” Canup and Marie Bolt Canup. Buzz was the husband of Pat Jones Canup. Dr. Canup received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Clemson University and earned a Doctorate Degree from North Carolina State University. He was a Veteran and Captain in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War air defense artillery and military intelligence branches. Buzz was awarded several service awards including a Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device. He worked for Fluor Corporation for twenty years in Human Resources and Global Location Services and was currently the President of Canup & Associates, a private international economic development consulting firm. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his daughter Cathy Canup Scott and husband Garrett Scott; son Scott Canup and Stephen Gage; grandchildren Parker Scott and Hammond Scott; sister Linda Canup Lima and husband Lou Lima, Pat’s daughter Callie Baldwin and husband Peter Baldwin, and son Jeff Miller, and Buzz’s loyal companion, Tux. At Dr. Canup’s request, the family will hold a private memorial service.
