Cornelia “Connie” Cox Smith, 90, of Greenville, SC, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2022, at Cascades-Verdae from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
Connie was born in Lynchburg, VA on July 4, 1932. She was the only child of the late Lee Jennings and Norman William Cox and grew up in Crewe, VA. She attended the College of William & Mary where she met her husband, the late Frederick “Fred” Spencer Smith, Jr. After marrying in 1954, they raised their family in Spartanburg, SC, and later retired to the mountains of Tryon, NC. Connie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and a dear friend to many. She enjoyed playing bridge, spending time with her family, and always had a smile on her face and a positive spirit. She was a true, family-centered person – taking wonderful care of her husband in his late years. She and Fred shared a vision of keeping their family in close relationship with one another through their family lake house – a vision that was well-beyond successful. As a survivor of both breast and colon cancer, Connie reflected a steadfast peace consistent throughout her entire life.
Connie is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Steve and Anna Smith; her son-in-law, Bill Rodrigue, four grandchildren Tyler Rodrigue (Jennifer), Allison Rodrigue Satterfield (Grey), Michael Smith, and Drew Smith, and one great-granddaughter, Ayla Rodrigue. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Rodrigue.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Cascades-Verdae for their wonderful care of Connie.
A celebration of life service will be held at Fernwood Baptist Church, 200 Fernwood Dr, Spartanburg, SC 29307, on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a visitation with friends and family.
