Cynthia Elizabeth Moseley, age 95, died August 28, 2021 at her home in Spartanburg. Born November 9, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Carlos Roland Moseley and Helen Allston DuPré Moseley. Her siblings, Carlos DuPrê Moseley, Daniel DuPré Moseley and Helen Sydnor Moseley all predeceased Cynthia. She earned the B.A. degree from Converse College and the M.A. degree from the University of North Carolina. Her master’s thesis was based on the career of Henry Kennedy Stevens, a relative and a Confederate naval officer during the Civil War. While her brothers left Spartanburg for their distinguished careers, Cynthia remained here. She carefully gathered, organized and documented family papers and other possessions, which now form the Moseley Collection, held by the Spartanburg County Public Libraries. She was a passionate user of and advocate for the local library, which named its upper-level gallery and meeting space the Cynthia Elizabeth Moseley Gallery in her honor. For a time, she worked for the Social Security Administration locally and the Converse College library. Cynthia was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent. She was long active in Spartanburg life, particularly the arts. Cynthia’s friends acknowledge with gratitude the help of Mitzie Ellis, Lee Holroyd, and the care of Comfort Keepers. Cynthia’s life will be celebrated on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 10:00 AM at the Episcopal Church of the Advent. Presiding will be The Reverend J. Edward Morris (Ned). Following the service, the burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Spartanburg Humane Society, Mobile Meals of Spartanburg or St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic.
