David Christopher Brinks passed away on June 27, 2024 at the age of 74 in the company of his loving family. He was born on June 12, 1950 in Washington, D.C. to the late Jean and Jane Brinks. He is survived by his wife Suzanne, daughters Connie Dragicevich (Zack) and Sarah Miller (Brandon), granddaughter Clara, brothers Adrian, Gery, Andy, and Jim, brother-in-law John, sister Monica, and many beloved friends. He was predeceased by his sister Suzanne and sister-in-law Carol.
Dave graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Although a dedicated student, he could frequently be found skipping class to play cards in the student union. He met the love of his life, Suzanne, on the way to class. They were married in 1975 and enjoyed 49 wonderful years together. They spent most of their married life in Maryland where they raised a family, enjoying daily walks on the Baltimore & Annapolis trail and a home-cooked meal by Suzanne every night.
Dave was an avid golfer who played many special courses over his lifetime, including Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, the U.S. Naval Academy, and Spyglass. He also was a dedicated sports-watcher who could frequently be heard cheering for the Baltimore Ravens and the Carolina Gamecocks. Every summer he vacationed in the Outer Banks with his family, often renting a large beach house to accommodate many siblings, nieces, and nephews. He was family first in all aspects of life and leaves his loved ones with many cherished memories. At home he maintained his garden and loved bird watching from his screened porch (his favorites were yellow birds). His beverage of choice was a Jack-Daniels on the rocks, with a splash of water - which he enjoyed every night up until his last few days.
Professionally, he served the Greenbelt, MD community as financial manager at the Greenbelt Co-op Supermarket for over forty years. He was passionate about helping his customers with all inquiries and particularly enjoyed making wine recommendations. In his retirement years, he and Suzanne moved to Spartanburg, SC to be full time grandparents to Clara. Together, they enjoyed the Spartanburg theater, long walks, and trying out new restaurants.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held in the Fall in Maryland. In lieu of sending flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Association of Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties, which provided much relief and support to Dave and Suzanne during his courageous battle with cancer.
