Dean Pettit

Spartanburg, SC- Earl Dean Pettit, 83, husband of Judy Mahaffey Pettit, died Saturday, June 22, 2019. Born October 8, 1935 in Spartanburg, SC, Dean was a son of the late Earl Dean and Edna George Pettit. Dean was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and honorably served his country in the US Navy Reserve. After many years, he retired from the Spartanburg Herald Journal. Dean was employed most recently from Advanced Auto until his brain cancer diagnosis. He was a Master Mason with the Delmar Masonic Lodge #422 and a Shriner. In addition to his wife, Dean is survived by his daughter, Traci P. Hubbard and her husband, Tyson; grandchildren, Ashley Hubbard, Tyson Hubbard, IV, Jay Pettit, Allyson Smith and her husband, Nate, and Bailey Pettit; great grandchildren, Jada and Hazel Pettit; and a sister, Betty P. Hill of Oklahoma. He was predeceased by his sons, Greg and Tim Pettit. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 25th, 3:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Dr. Bob E. Pettit. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
