Deborah Jane Close, 65, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center. She was born on August 11, 1956 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of Bobbie Keeter Close and Leland Grant Close, Sr. Deborah spent most of her life in Asheville, NC and was a graduate of Enka High School and Western Carolina University. She enjoyed classic literature and especially classic movies, frequently surprising her family with her knowledge of trivia. She had a quick wit and infective laugh. Deborah was a Certified Nursing Assistant and proudly cared for her patients with love at Brooks-Howell Home and Thoms Rehabilitation Hospital in Asheville. Surviving is her sister, Teresa Lynn Close of Asheville, NC; brother, Leland Grant Close, Jr. and his wife, Gloria, of Spartanburg, SC; niece, Rebekah Close LeMon and her husband, Joel, of Atlanta, GA; nephew, Leland Grant Close, III and his wife, Mary Grace, of Spartanburg, SC; and great-nephews and nieces, James LeMon, Caroline LeMon, Jane Close, Grant Close, and Mary Close. She loved being their “Aunt Maudie”. Deborah was proud to be a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg where her memorial service will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 10:00 am. Interment will be in Swain Memorial Park in Bryson City, NC. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Habitat for Humanity of Spartanburg, or the charity of your choice.
