Deonn K. Yates Spartanburg - Deonn Kirk Yates, 68, husband of Linda Manley Yates, went to eternal rest on Thursday, February 8, 2018. Deonn was born in Pueblo, Colorado on November 11, 1949, a son of Late Harold Leo and Virginia Faith Whitcome Yates. He faithfully served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Deonn was then employed as a carpenter and eventually retired from Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. He led an active life including participation with HALTER (Handicapped Athletes Learning To Ride) from 2006 – 2017, the Spartanburg Swim Center, and physical therapy and training at COOPS of Spartanburg. Deonn was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. Deonn is survived by a son, Deonn K. Yates II (Shay); a daughter, Angela Altpeter (Phillip); two brothers, Gary Yates of Scottsdale, AZ; and Gary Thomas and family of Texas, a sister, Tana Achulleta of Peyton, CO. and his aunt Vita Fischer. He was blessed with Eight grandchildren, Deonn Yates III, Gabe Yates, Jeff Yates, Madison Yates, Morgan Yates, Kimberly Smith (Ian), Kristen Altpeter, Aubree Altpeter; Six Great Grandchildren, Brady Yates, Gi Gi Yates, Owen Yates, Ellie Yates, Brindolyn Altpeter, and Silas Mize. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Dunbar Funeral Home Chapel.
