Donna Robinson Cart

Donna Robinson Cart ,92, of Spartanburg died peacefully surrounded by her children on Thursday, December 2, 2021.

Born May 21,1929 in Gastonia, NC, she was the daughter of the late Mary Emma Henry and Alfred Smyre Robinson.

She attended Gastonia city schools, graduated from St. Catherine’s School, Richmond, VA in 1948 and attended Sweet Briar College, Sweet Briar, VA.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Walter Montgomery Cart and a much loved  grandson, Henry Robinson Cart.

She was blessed with and is survived by her four children, Emily Cart Cochran (Stuart) of Staunton, VA, Walter Montgomery Cart, Jr.  of Amelia, VA, Alfred Robinson Cart (Roberta) of Saluda, NC, Lucile Cart Boyle (Bobby) of Columbia, SC; and by nine grandchildren, Harry Carter Stuart Cochran, Jr. (Jodie), Walter Alexander Robinson Cochran (Wan-Lae), Elizabeth Robinson Cart, Eleanor Guerin Cart, Walter Henry Montgomery Cart, Jessie Heyward Cart, Emily Heyward Cart Sutton (Josh), Lucile Montgomery Boyle, Robert Goggans Boyle, Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Caroline, Kate and Mac Cochran; and many treasured nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her sister, Suzanne Robinson Folger of Mt. Airy,NC.

She was a member of the Church of the Advent, where she lovingly served as a long-time member of the Advent Altar Guild and as Directress.  She was also president of the Episcopal Churchwomen, member of Daughters of the King, served on the Upstate Diocesan Board and taught Sunday School when her children were young.  

She was a member of several garden clubs, Junior League of Spartanburg and the Assembly.

She was the epitome of Southern grace always thinking of others and their needs.  Her devotion to community led her to serve on the Church Home for Children Board, York, SC and the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation Board, Columbia, SC along with various other civic organizations.  

She will be remembered as a loving mother to her four incredibly fortunate children.  

Her greatest joy was spending time surrounded by her family and friends at her precious Lake Summit.  She also enjoyed history, gardening and reading.  

Her children would especially like to thank her caring and attentive caregivers: Tammy Ellison, DouQuita Young, Becky Warlick, Erica McClary, Kay Cohen and Emily Simpson.

A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
