Doris Jean Layton Clayton

Doris Jean Layton Clayton, 72, of Pauline, SC passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. Born in Spartanburg, SC on November 8, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Oliver Mansel and Doris Watts Layton. A graduate of Dorman High School, Jean went on to work with Westgate Family Physicians for 38 years. She was a vibrant woman; she enjoyed singing and dancing, painting wall murals, and watching hummingbirds. Jean truly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She leaves behind her husband, James Arnold Clayton; sons, Charles Mansel Thomas, Jack Anthony Thomas (Tasha), and Christopher Bryan Thomas; daughter, Marissa Thomas vanHerwynen (Albert); grandchildren, Mia Thomas, Devonne Stribling, Jackson vanHerwynen, and Paeton Thomas; great-grandchildren, Lanning vanHerwynen and Oliver Stribling; and brother, David Layton (Patti). Along with her parents, Jean was predeceased by her first husband, Jack Thomas. Celebration of Life will be 3:00pm on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Walnut Grove Methodist Church, 1335 Walnut Grove Road, Roebuck, SC 29376, conducted by Rev. Chris Snellgrove. The family will receive friends outside the church following the service.
