Dorothy C. Stapleton

Dorothy C. Stapleton Spartanburg_ Dorothy Cochran Stapleton, 89, widow of Jerry Cleveland Stapleton died Wednesday, June 7, 2017. Dorothy was one of 13 children born to the late William Harvey and Ida Golden Cochran.  She was a graduate of Pauline High School .Dorothy was employed with Glendale and Clifton Mills for over 25 years and retired from Hamricks Mills.  She was a member of Hammett Grove Baptist Church for 67 years. Dorothy is survived by her son, “Bill” Jerry Stapleton and a daughter Christine S. Owens (Jerry) both of Spartanburg.  She is also survived by brothers, Bobbie, Julian, Jimmy and David Cochran; sisters, Margie Smith, Diane Nichols and Linda Taylor.  Dorothy leaves behind her grandchildren, Jason, of the home, Chad Owens, step grandsons, Lt. Col (Ret) Jeffrey D. Owens and Christopher S. Owens and 4 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by brothers, Donald, Jack, Edward, and Eugene Cochran, sister, Betty Lancaster, and two grandsons, Matthew and Joseph Stapleton. The family will receive friends at Hammett Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM, Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 Noon, officiated by Pastors Clint Phillips; Paul L. “Buddy” Hogan; and David Sellars.  Burial will be private in church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Dorothy’s honor to Hammett Grove Baptist Church, PO Box 190 Pacolet, SC 29372.
