Douglas Gary D'Arnall

Douglas Gary D’Arnall, 87, of Roebuck, SC passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025. He was born in Inglewood, CA on January 14, 1938 to the late Ralf Morse and Almira Tschirgi D’Arnall.

Doug graduated from Orange Coast College, where he played baseball and earned his associates degree. His love of athletics extended into his semi-pro baseball days, and on to playing water polo, but his true passion was swimming. Doug joined the City of Huntington Beach as a lifeguard and worked his way up to Marine Safety Officer. He served his city with honor for 35 years. During this time, he established the Junior Lifeguard program and traveled the globe with the International Life Saving Association, where he served as Secretary and past President. He also co-authored many books on the subject of public safety. 

After retirement, Doug consulted with attorneys around the world as an expert witness. He and his wife, Judith, then moved to Roebuck, where they joined Church at The Mill. Doug became a dedicated Christian man and shared his musical talents as part of the choir. He was known for his great sense of humor, strong moral compass, and willingness to mentor anyone in need of his help. Doug was a man achieved many things, but he always remained humble.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Judith Sawyer D’Arnall; children, Dennis D’Arnall (Christine) of Stansbury, UT, Darrell D’Arnall (Linda) of Simpsonville, SC, and Dorlynn Gallego of Boiling Springs, SC; and sister, Yvonne Dickie (Bob). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Donné, Doug, Dominique, Ryland, Devon, Coulton, Desiree, and Emilee, several great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and is a stepfather to many others.

Visitation will be 3:00pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Church at The Mill Woodruff, 517 Cross Anchor Rd, Woodruff, SC 29388. Memorial services will follow at 4:00pm, conducted by Rev. Adam Siskey and Rev. Daniel Godfrey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church at The Mill Woodruff Building Fund, 4455 Anderson Mill Road, Moore, SC 29369.
