Dr. Hugh Ansel Hayes

October 18, 1936 — February 12, 2018

Spartanburg, SC- Hugh completed his earth's journey to enter heaven February 12, 2018.  He was born October 18, 1936 in Mayo, South Carolina and the youngest son of Hosea Elam and Mary Price Hayes.   Chesnee High School was his alma mater and he attended Spartanburg Methodist, Clemson School of Veterinary Science and received the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia in 1964.  He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Alpha Psi Veterinary Fraternity.  Hugh retired from his practice at Hayes Animal Hospital in 2005.   He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo, of 55 years; son, Hugh Jr. of New York, NY; daughter, Heidi of Asheville, NC; son, Andy (Teresa); his beloved grandson, Hugh Andrew of Spartanburg, SC; his adopted son, Paul Don (Veneal) and their children, Craig of Boone, NC, and Ben of Spartanburg, Anna of Alexandria, VA; as well as his favorite furry companion, Calvin. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Monty; and sister, Carolyn.  Special thanks to Interim Hospice as well as his dedicated team of Doctors; Dr. Eric Cole, Dr. Jerry Hull, Dr. Michael Pryor and Dr. Michael Humeniuk. To his loyal clients, thank you for many years of faithful support.  You became his "other family".   Friends and family will gather Thursday, February 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Morningside Baptist Church followed by a gathering in the fellowship hall to offer condolences and celebrate Hugh's homecoming.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to: Youth Mission Trip, Morningside Baptist Church, 897 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302 or to the charity of one's choice.
