Spartanburg, SC- Edith Beckett Thornton, 99, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021. Born February 4, 1922 in Spartanburg, SC, Edith was a daughter of the late John Earl and Pauline Lancaster Thornton. She was a graduate of Pauline High School, class of 1939, and worked for Raycord for many years. Edith was owner and founder of Thornton’s Florist until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church where she was Elder Emeritus, former president and treasurer of Women of the Church, former Youth Director, taught Sunday school for 46 years, and was involved in several church committees over the years. Edith is survived by her daughters, Janice Polk (Ralph), and Bonnie Williams (Aubrey); grandchildren, Eddie Eubanks, Morris Eubanks, Timothy Ray Smith, Kevin Polk, Jason Smith, Cara Vest, Lisa Bourcier, Trey Williams; and several great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Camby. Edith was predeceased by her daughter, Carolyn Smith, and husband E. G.; three brothers, Eugene, Cecil, and Robert Thornton; and three sisters, Earline Smith, Mary John West, and Betty Gurley. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 30th, 2:00PM at Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church, officiated by Reverend Dr. Bob Pettit and Reverend Richard Thomas. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the burial in the Family Life Center.
