Edward Ryder of Boiling Springs, beloved husband of Diane (Cuffman) for 52 years, father of Megan Snider (Matt) of Columbus, Ohio and Kate Young (David) of Boiling Springs, passed away April 7, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born May 4, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio, and lived in Ohio until moving to SC in 2022. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Spartanburg, where he was active in the men’s prayer group and Emmaus.
He was senior partner in the Cleveland law firm of Mazanec, Raskin, and Ryder from 1984-2014, member of the Ohio Legislature from 1971 to 1972, served in local government, served as chairman of the Geauga County (Ohio) Republican Party, and served on the Geauga County Board of Elections for several years. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2012. He devoted his life to the service of others.
Besides his loving wife and daughters, he is survived by grandchildren Bridget, Clare, Norah, Jack, and Luke, a sister, Joann Varga of Strongsville, Ohio, brother-in-law Gary Cuffman (wife, Pattie) of Willoughby, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be held Friday, April 12, in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 N. Dean St., Spartanburg, at 11 a.m. Family will receive friends at 10 a.m. in the church before the service.
