Gena Powers

Lyman, SC- Gena Powers, 62, beloved wife of 39 years to Frankie Powers, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at her home.

Born January 14, 1961 in Union, SC, Gena was a daughter of Louise Martin Pace and the late George Hembree. She was a Cross Anchor native and graduated from Spartanburg High School before obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from USC Upstate. Gena was a longtime valued nurse with Cardiology Consultants for 24 years before her retirement. During her time there, she cultivated loving and lasting friendships with her colleagues and patients. Prior to that, she worked in records with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office and as an ER nurse for Wallace Thomson Hospital and Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

In addition to her husband, Frank, Gena is survived by her sons, Jordan and Elliott (Carina) Powers; a very special great niece, Cerenity Gist; sister, Jo H. White (Scooter); brother, Timmy Hembree (Debbie); numerous nieces and a nephew, all of whom she loved dearly; and her fur-babies, who are too many to name. 

She was predeceased by a brother, Marty Hembree; and her stepfather, Grady Pace.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 7th, 6-8PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 8th, 1:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home, officiated by Sheriff Chuck Wright, Reverend Vernon Thornhill, Dr. Alejandro Lopez, and Dr. Joseph Mobley.
