Ellen Delilah “Del” Bennett Brown, 78, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025. Born on October 24, 1946, to the late Hazel Lamb and Glancy Mack Bennett, Del lived a life devoted to family, service, and creativity.
A graduate of Spartanburg High School and Cecil’s Business College, Del built a remarkable career in public service. She worked as a dispatcher for the South Carolina Highway Patrol and later for Spartanburg County, retiring after 28 years of dedicated service. She also served on the volunteer rescue squad for Camp Croft.
Del was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She was known for her artistic talents, and loved to needlepoint and cross-stitch.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Tammy Brown Johnson (Joel) of Roebuck, SC; two cherished grandchildren, Bennett Johnson (Ashleigh) and Andrew Johnson; and a host of friends who will miss her warmth and kindness.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM, conducted by Rev. Eddie Traxler at the J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Rd., Roebuck, SC 29376. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 12:45 PM in the chapel. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Del may be made to The National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016, or to a charity of one’s choice.
