Eugene Lee Simmons

Eugene “Gene” L. Simmons Roebuck – Eugene “Gene” Lee Simmons, 85, husband of Lyda Pickett Simmons, died Thursday, October 4, 2018. Gene was born on May 6, 1933, to the late Theron and Lela Goley Simmons. He faithfully served his country in the US Marine Corp and retired after 20 years of service. Gene, a piddler, loved his girls and loved to hum and whistle.  He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where he had also served as a deacon. In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by three daughters, Kathye Scriber (Charlie) of Ruston, LA, Tracye Beacham (Billy) of Grandview, TX, Kelli Wolfe (Scott) of Roebuck; and his brother, Theron Simmons, Jr., of Oswego, IL. He was blessed with eleven grandchildren, Ben Shy, Jacob Shy, Mallory Linck, Chris Van Hoy, Jonathan Van Hoy, Billy Beacham III, Brooke Smallbone, Jordan Beacham, Chase Wolfe, Carson Wolfe, Cooper Wolfe; and fifteen greatgrandchildren. Gene was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Van Hoy. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at Southside Baptist Church. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Alzheimer’s Association; 901 S. Pine St., Spartanburg, SC 29302.
