Roebuck, SC - On Friday, December 8, 2023, Evelyn Sorensen - our loving and most amazing mom went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was reunited with her husband of 64 years, Carl, who passed away three years earlier. Mom was an amazing mom to us - her three children who loved her beyond what words can express. The same holds true with her grandchildren and great grandchildren for whom she prayed and was always concerned. She was gifted with wisdom beyond her years – a sixth sense and often, at just the right time, would pass that wisdom on to her family members in forms of encouragement and guidance. In her latter years, Mom overcame two bouts of pneumonia, COVID and various other short-term illnesses but always fought her way back. We often joked with her that she saw Jesus but He sent her back for more work to do! This time, He gently took her home peaceably and without any discomfort. He was always so kind to her. Mom is survived by her three children and their spouses, Carla & Bob Banish, Anita & Greg Morton, and Stephen & Lea Ann Sorensen; her eleven grandchildren and spouses, Stephanie Norris, Scott & Lauren Banish, Laura & Andrew Moore, Katie Morton, Caroline & Russell Page, Jeremy Morton, Jorgia Morton, Tyler Sorensen, Lydia Sorensen, Jesse Sorensen, and David Sorensen; and her ten great-grandchildren, Landon Norris, Ayden Norris, Daygen Norris, Addy Kate Banish, Sutton Banish, Eliza Moore, Mallie Moore, Siler Morton, Ruby Ann Morton and Grady Morton. She was predeceased by her loving husband who adored her, Carl Sorensen; her first-born child, Daniel Sorensen; her grandson, Mitchell Morton; and her great grandson, Hudson Isaac Moore. We want to especially thank Kathy May, who was mom’s faithful caregiver and who mom loved dearly. She was amazing to mom and has become like family to us. We also appreciate Serena McCann who was very kind to mom and prepared the perfect breakfasts for her. Finally, we want to thank ComfortKeepers and its scheduling staff and caregivers who worked diligently to make sure mom was well taken care of. A celebration of mom’s life and the worship of her Lord will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church following a private graveside service. We would enjoy speaking with friends and family after the worship service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Carolina Pregnancy Center, 100 Metro Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303; and Mt. Calvary PCA, 1399 Walnut Grove Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Arrangements are being handled by The J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home in Roebuck, SC.
