Spartanburg, SC- Frank Duren Moore 91, passed away Wednesday October 17 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home after a brief illness. He was born November 22, 1926 to the late William Bryson and Nellie Easler Moore. Frank was reared in the Walnut Grove/Stone Station communities. He attended Roebuck High School and Spartanburg Technical College. Frank was drafted at 18 and proudly served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Philippine Islands. He retired from Pepsi Cola Bottling Company after 28 years and Community Cash Warehouse after 12 years. Frank then worked for Freightliner delivering new trucks until his final retirement at the age of 84. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church where he served on many committees and was a former chairman of the deacons. Frank was a member of the American Legion Post 28, the Roebuck Masonic Lodge for 60 years, a Hejaz Shriner and the Old Timer’s Textile Baseball League. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 66 years, Joann Pless Moore (Josie), two daughters, Dr. Cindy Heldrich (Rick) of Charleston, SC and Frankie Henderson (Chuck) of Roebuck; one son, Billy Moore (Lisa) of Boiling Springs; two granddaughters, Heather Leigh Ann Moore and Sarah Frances Henderson; a brother in-law, Clarence Lee Johnson; sisters in-law, Kaye Moore, Marian Huskey (Porter), and Catherine Pless; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews. Frank was the last living survivor of his family. He was predeceased by three sisters, Dollie Owens, Sarah Wood and Mildred Johnson; brother, Lewis Moore; brothers in-law, Cotton Owens, Quenton Wood, Harold Dean Pless, and Sonny Pless. Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved working on cars, driving big trucks, NASCAR racing, baseball, going out to eat with friends, his church, his cats and dogs, his family, and most of all his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Helen Jones, Brightstar of Greer, and the nurses on 2 West Restorative Care. A visitation will be held Saturday, October 20th, 12:30-1:45PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00PM, officiated by Reverend Lewis Veehan. Burial with be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or to the charity of one’s choice.
