Gary Forrest Bohlen

Spartanburg, SC- Gary Forrest Bohlen, 64, husband of Mary Elizabeth Kimball Bohlen, died Friday, February 16, 2018 at his home. Born October 11, 1953 in Kinston, North Carolina, Gary was a son of the late Harold Otto and Marie Phillips Bohlen.Gary was a devoted husband, generous father, and loving grandfather. In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his son, William Frederick Bohlen and his wife, Amy Sansom Bohlen of Simpsonville, SC; his grandchildren, Sylvia Venning Bohlen, Virginia Elizabeth Bohlen, William Frederick Bohlen, Jr., and Charles Albert Bohlen; and his brother, Harold Glenn Bohlen of Florida.He was a graduate of Appalachian State University and the Medical University of South Carolina, College of Pharmacy, followed by a residency in hospital pharmacy at Spartanburg General Hospital. He was a former partner in Foothills Family Pharmacies, and was currently employed as a pharmacist at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.Gary enjoyed traveling, fishing, and backpacking with his son. One of his treasured roles was being "Yaya" to his grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 19th, 4:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Relay for Life Spartanburg, Team Spartanburg Regional Pharmacy.
