Gary Layne Lindner
Gary Layne Lindner, 75, of Duncan, SC, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Mary Jane Lindner. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Martha Hamby Lindner, and children Amy Faulkner (Todd) of Moore, SC, Wesley Lindner (Jennifer) of Chuluota, Florida, and grandchildren Alex, Blake, and Olivia Faulkner and Sadie, Hudson, and Ranger Lindner.
Born in Great Falls, Montana, he was an early riser and “fixer of all things” with a servant’s heart. After serving in the United States Army and graduating from the University of Tennessee, he spent his career as a textile engineer with Milliken and TNS Mills. Throughout his military and professional career, he formed many successful relationships and left a lasting impact on everyone he met because of his strong sense of integrity and work ethic.
Gary was known as a loyal and dedicated husband, father, and Papa. He enjoyed traveling and gardening and made many family memories at the Isle of Palms. He could often be found on the sidelines of a football, lacrosse, or baseball game or in the audience of an orchestra concert, dance team recital, or a school play. He found joy in anything his grandchildren were a part of.
Gary was a survivor, including being electrocuted by a power line, falling off a roof, and was a proud 19-year survivor of a glioblastoma. He could repair almost anything and found a repurposed use for everything from a doorknob to a coffee canister.
He was a selfless volunteer who enjoyed making life better for others. He served as a mentor to young adults, raised money for cancer research through Relay for Life, drove patients to treatments for the American Cancer Society, and was a regular volunteer at Pelham Medical Center.
The legacy of his spirit will live on in all who knew and loved him.
