Gwendolyn Ruth Bunnell, 76, of Greer, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025. Born on August 6, 1948, at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine, she was the youngest of four children to Frank “Burleigh” Ridlon and Elvina DeRoche Ridlon. Gwen lived a vibrant life filled with devotion to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whose presence brought her immense joy.

Gwen is survived by her daughters, Wendy Hart (Vincent) and Stacy Miller (Brandt); her grandchildren, Mehgan (Hart) and Mathew Belk , Emily (Hart) and Dr. Peter Durham, Amy Hart, Anthony and Connor Miller; and her great-grandchildren, Gryffin, Atlas, and Orion Durham. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Bunnell, and her brothers, Ronald Ridlon, Edward Ridlon, and Frank Burleigh Ridlon Jr.

A dedicated human resources professional, Gwen retired in 2019 from Cypress Semiconductor after over 30 years of exemplary service. Following retirement, she relocated to South Carolina, where she embraced her passions for travel and spending cherished moments with her grandson Connor. An avid birdwatcher, Gwen meticulously recorded the birds that visited her feeders in a daily journal. She also had a green thumb, particularly with violets, often sharing baby violet plants with the nurses at the cancer facility where she received treatment. As a devoted member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church, Gwen sang in the choir and led the United Women in Faith group, leaving a lasting impact on her community.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Carolina Cancer Alliance https://www.sccancer.org/ or a charity close to your heart.

Gwen will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts. We look forward to seeing you again soon, Mom. We can drink wine and feed the birds together then.

Psalms 121:1-8 NLT

I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
