Harold D. “Smiley” Cox, Sr. Spartanburg – Harold Dean “Smiley” Cox, Sr., 89, husband of Helen Kirby Cox, died Wednesday, January 30, 2019. Smiley was born on December 9, 1929 to the late Thomas Den and Elizabeth Belle James Cox. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was an avid outdoorsman. Smiley faithfully served in the US Army and retired from the US Postal service after 30 years of service.  He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. In addition to his wife of 65 years, Smiley is survived by his son, Dean Cox (Joan) of Roebuck; daughter, Diana Goodlett (William) of Spartanburg; two brothers, David Cox (Norma), and Kenny Cox, both of Spartanburg. He was blessed with three grandchildren, McKenzie, Andrew, Nikki; and two great-grandchildren, Lily and Lanham. Smiley was predeceased by his siblings, Paul, Gerald, Peggy and Vivian. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00PM.
