Spartanburg, SC- Helen Ann Thackston Hines, 80, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at her home.

Helen was born May 25, 1942 in Spartanburg, SC, to the late Carolyn Gore Thackston and Moffett “Monk” King Thackston. She graduated from Spartanburg High School, St. Mary’s Junior College, and The University of South Carolina with a degree in social work. She spent more of her career in social work and later she was a Prudential real estate broker. Helen was athletic, winning trophies in swimming, and enjoying water skiing at their Lake Lanier home. She made her debut in The Spartanburg Debutante Club, and enjoyed memberships in The Cowpens Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, The Margaret Moore Garden Club, The Perennial Garden Club, and The Piedmont Club. She was also a member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Eslie Hines, Jr.

Helen is survived by her two sons, Joseph Eslie Hines, III (Stacy) and John Moffett Hines; and grandchild, Michael Joseph Hines.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 19th, 2:00PM at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, with a reception to follow in the Parish Family Life Center.
