Herbert Daniel Weiss

Herbert Daniel Weiss, 82, of Moore, South Carolina passed quietly and peacefully in his sleep on Monday July 22, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Herb was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on June 3rd, 1942 to the late Herbert and Olga (Smerke) Weiss.

Herb was a member of the last graduating class of Sheboygan’s Central High School in 1960. He was employed by Hayssen Manufacturing (now Barry-Wehmiller Flexible Systems) for 43 years. Herb began with the company in Sheboygan and moved with the company to South Carolina in 1985, progressing from electrician to the foreman of the vertical assembly division. He was well liked and respected by his direct reports and won multiple awards for his customer service, product knowledge, and innovative ideas during his time with the company.

Herb is survived by his loving wife, Judith (Voigt) Weiss; his children, Anthony (Barbara) Weiss and Kathleen (Kenneth) Wolke; his grandchildren, Carly (Eric) Vanden Acker, Daniel (Angela) Weiss, Kyle (Maya) Wolke, and Keith Wolke (Brandon Rhodes); and his great grandson, Perrin Weiss. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steven Weiss.

Herb was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, willingness to help anyone, and being the first to volunteer. He enjoyed time spent with family, camping, photography, model railroading, and was a Nascar fan - particularly the Earnhardts. Many family trips included spending time in railyards photographing “real life trains” that he would then model for his own layout. His attention to detail and ability to recreate scenes, buildings, and train cars from those photographs was amazing. He enjoyed not just the modeling but belonged to several train clubs where they ran operating sessions on various members’ layouts. He was a mentor to many modelers over the years and he loved every minute of it. 

A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Jesus Our Risen Savior Catholic Church located at 2575 Reidville Road, Spartanburg, SC where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9575.

The family would like to thank the hospice team who provided support, equipment, and supplies needed to care for him in his home.
