Jack R. Tyner, Sr.
Spartanburg, SC- Jack Remus Tyner, Sr., 94, husband of the late Sybil Rankin Tyner, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.
Born April 16, 1928 in Greenville, SC, Jack was a son of the late Charles W. Tyner and Pauline Rouda Tyner. After the accidental death of his father, he was raised by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton and Hester Seigler Rouda. Jack attended schools in Laurens, Greenville, and Pickens counties before graduation. He honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Jack worked with Sullivan Hardware Company for 16 years before he founded Regal Distribution in 1962. The company is still active today.
Jack was generous with his time and resources, serving on many boards and being a member of many charitable organizations. He was a former boy scout, a member of The Lions Club, the Mental Health Committee, and the Spartanburg Shrine Club. He was an active member of the Spartanburg Regional Hospital Board for over 17 years before becoming a chairman. Jack was an Interim Emeriti member for 10 years, a board member of the Shriner’s Hospital in Greenville, a Master Mason for 62 years, and served as Potentate of Hejaz Shriners 1969, also serving as treasurer. He was also elected Director of Royal Order of Jesters in 1971.
He is survived by his son, Marty Tyner (Wanda); his daughters, Teresa Boyter (Ric), Cathie Johnston, and Connie Knight (Dennis); grandchildren, Rose Knight, Julian Carswell, Jr. (Kerry), Tiffany Tyner, Allie Stubbs (Ben), Kelsey Perkins (Keith), Jack R. Tyner, III “Jake”, Kenny Smith (Crystal), Linda Knotts (Kris), and Krista Lawson (Ray); thirteen great grandchildren; and a very special friend, Maxine Lee.
Jack was predeceased by a son, Jack R. Tyner, Jr.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 21st, 12:30PM until 1:45PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the Chapel at 2:00PM.
Burial will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at their respective homes.
