-Spartanburg, SC-James Robert "Pete" Lawson, 75, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, departed from this world on October 14, 2023. He was born in Spartanburg County on September 20, 1948, to the late Lewis John Lawson and Naomi Elizabeth Blackwell. Pete was a man of many passions, and he lived his life to the fullest. His love for NASCAR was unwavering, and he relished every thrilling moment on the racetrack. His joy for the sport was infectious, and he shared this passion with those around him. The great outdoors held a special place in Pete's heart. He found solace and happiness while camping and fishing on the serene waters of Lake Greenwood. The tranquility of nature brought him peace, and these moments were some of his most cherished. Pete had a knack for humor and an infectious laughter that could light up a room. He loved to tell jokes and bring smiles to the faces of friends and family. His sense of humor was a true gift, and he used it to connect with people in a unique and heartwarming way. Travel was another great love in Pete's life, and he often embarked on adventures with his beloved Shih Tzu, Rascal. Exploring new places and creating lasting memories was a source of immense joy for him. His family held a special place in Pete's heart, and he adored his granddaughters. The bond he shared with them was deep and meaningful. Pete was a man of business, an entrepreneur with a strong work ethic. He was the owner of A1 Wrecker Service and Discount Tire, where he displayed his dedication and drive for success. In addition to his wife, Marsha, Pete is survived by his two sons, Derrick Shane Lawson and Robert Rodd Lawson. He is also survived by his two adoring granddaughters, Cassey Lawson and Hayden Lawson, who were a source of great happiness in his life. He is preceded in death by his sister, Janice Lawson, and his brother Lewis Bennie Lawson. Services will be on Thursday, October 19th, 2023 , with a visitation from 12:30-1:30 at the J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home, and a graveside to follow at 2:00 PM in Heritage Memorial Gardens in Roebuck, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Pete may be made to The Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road Spartanburg, SC 29303.
