James Paul Rush

Spartanburg, SC- The Reverend Dr. James Paul Rush, 81, husband of Elizabeth Pittman Rush, died Thursday, September 27, 2018 Born July 11, 1937 in Eupora, MS, James was the son of the late James Reese and Bernice Grice Rush. He attended divinity school in Dublin, Ireland, Duke University, and received his undergraduate degree from Millsaps College. For 41 years, James sewed his life into the ministry, planting churches in Woodland Hills, CA, Trenton, Aynor, Lancaster, Buffalo, Pleasant Hill, and Little River, SC. After retiring in Lugoff, SC, he made his way to Edisto Beach, SC. In addition to the ministry, James enjoyed gardening, loved to fish, and was a member of the Lions Club for 25 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter in-law, Elena Pribyl Rush of McKinney, TX; his grandchildren, Benjamin Woodress Rush, MD of Winston Salem, NC and Anne-Elizabeth Pittman Rush of Ocala, FL; and his brother, John Terrell Rush (Elaine) of Greer, SC. He was predeceased by his sons, David Louis Rush and James Stephen Rush. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Home Instead Senior Care and his caregivers, Dana Gowan and Tori Bradberry for their loving care provided to Mr. Rush. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 30th, 2:00PM at Bethel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
