Jean Marion Humeston Blakeley, 92, widow of Frederick Walter Blakeley, died Monday, September 2, 2024 at home.
Born December 28, 1931 in Danbury, CT, Jean was the daughter of the late George Franklin and Kathleen Veronica Smith Humeston. After graduating from high school in 1949, Jean became a registered nurse in 1952 through St. Vincent’s College of Nursing in Bridgeport, CT. She worked at Danbury Hospital as a labor and delivery nurse for 20 years before becoming a cardiac critical care nurse. Jean continued her devoted care for her patients for another 20 years, when she retired in 1995. After living in Brookfield for 42 years, she and Frederick moved to South Carolina in 2004. As devoted Roman Catholics, they joined St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church soon after.
Jean is survived by her three children, David Allen Blakeley, Douglas George Blakeley (Jodi), and Donna Shook Phoebus (Scott); 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; brother, James Hugh Humeston; sister, Elaine Margaret Humeston Winkler; daughter-in-law, Tina Blakeley; and sister-in-law, Liz Humeston. Along with her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Daniel Walter Blakeley; daughter-in-law, Peggy Blakeley; grandchildren, Jessica Leigh Blakeley and Aaron Michael Blakeley; great-grandson, Leonardo Isaac Blakeley; brothers, Dr. Frederick Leon Humeston, George Edward Humeston, John Joseph Humeston; and sister-in-laws, Barbara Humeston and Elreta Humeston.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm on Monday, September 9, 2024 at J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home & Crematory, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 290 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
