Spartanburg, SC- Jean Collins DeYoung, 90, wife of the late Lee Bryan DeYoung, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. Born July 29, 1931 in Augusta, GA, she was a daughter of the late Dennis Joseph and Harriette Stubbs Collins. Jean attended Mount St. Joseph Academy in Augusta, Barry College in Miami Shores, FL, and was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where she obtained her B.A in Business. She worked for many years in the lobbying industry in Washington, DC where she met her beloved husband Lee. They spent many happy years before she retired to care for her husband and her mother. During her years working in Washington she developed a keeninterest in politics and could remember details with the best of them. Jean carried a caring spirit. It was her nature to care for and nurture those around her. She volunteered countless hours with Spartanburg Regional Hospice and Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, in addition to caring for her husband and mother until their passing. It was Jean‘s purpose to make other peoples lives brighter. She is survived by her sister, Harriette Swancy of Spartanburg, SC; niece, Karen Smith and her husband, Johnny, of Greenville, SC; great nephews, Ryan Swancy (Katie) of Rock Hill, SC, Murphy Swancy of Chicago, IL, and Peyton Swancy of Denver, CO; and great nieces, Julia Taylor (Jay) of Greenville, SC, and Claire DuBose (Brooks) of Charlotte, NC. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her beloved nephew, Mark Swancy (Gini) Services will be held privately with her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, P O Box 2624, Spartanburg, SC 29304 or to Mobile Meals, P O Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
