Spartanburg, SC- Jerry Lewis Davenport, 75, husband of Brenda Whitman Davenport, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. Eight years earlier, Jerry had been diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer and was given a prognosis of a one-year survival. His family and friends are grateful for the blessing of his additional years. During this time, Jerry touched many lives through his courage, sweet spirit, unyielding faith, and enduring sense of humor. Jerry served in the Air Force, graduated from USC, and worked as a CPA. His truest accomplishments, however, are the titles he held as first-class husband, champion daddy, and the world’s greatest PaPaPa. Family was Jerry’s passion and delight. In addition to Brenda, he is survived by his two daughters and their husbands: Amy and Rev. Richard Herd and Whitney and Dr. Scott Stancil. He was PaPaPa to Jessica Stancil, Addison Stancil, and Arina Herd. Jerry is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, Joann and Junior Pullen, Carolyn and Gene Matthews, Kenneth and Merri Davenport, and Steve and Brenda Davenport; and his sisters in-law, Mitzi Davenport and Deenie Davenport. He was predeceased by his parents, Jesse Lander Davenport and Jessie Mae Medlin Davenport and two brothers, Ellis Davenport and Morris Davenport. A service in celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Sunday, November 19th at 2:00 at First Baptist Church Lyman, 80 Groce Road, Lyman, SC 29365.
