Jo Ann Hill Edmunds, 83, of Spartanburg, SC died Thursday, June 9, 2022 after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Maxwell Hill and Sara Cantrell Hill and the wife of William Carrington Edmunds, Sr.

Jo Ann attended Queens College in Charlotte, NC where she was an English major and a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Following college and her marriage, she was a housewife focused on raising her children.

In addition to her husband of 61 years, she is survived by her three children: son William Carrington Edmunds, Jr. of New Orleans, LA; daughter Sarah Hillary Edmunds, son Coleman Marks Edmunds, both of Spartanburg; a brother, John Maxwell Hill and his wife Myra Hodges Hill of Greenville, NC.

Jo Ann was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent where she was in The Episcopal Church Women and served on the Altar Guild. She was active in the annual Advent Bazaar and Chairwoman in 1998. She was also a member of the Junior League of Spartanburg, The Shortia Flower Garden Club, and The Spartanburg Debutante Club.

An avid lover of animals, she enjoyed many years of horseback riding in Landrum and Tryon with her friends and her beloved horse, Arby. As such, donations in her memory may be made to The Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303; to The Advent Foundation, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 14th at 2:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Advent followed by a reception at The Piedmont Club where the family will receive friends. A private burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery.
