Joachim “Joe” Molfenter, 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Spartanburg, SC on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. Born in Tuebingen, Germany, on February 18, 1937, he was the son of the late Alfred and Emma (Rominger) Molfenter of Reutlingen, Germany. After completing high school, Joe pursued his education and career in Reutlingen, Germany, as a textile engineer, specializing in knitting. Marrying in 1966, he and wife Edith (Haux) Molfenter relocated to the United States in 1967 where they both became US citizens, making Spartanburg their forever home. Employed by Milliken & Co, Joe's knowledge and expertise in knitting technologies were an integral part for the company’s department of research and development where he proudly served as a knitting technical engineer, retiring after over 30 years of dedicated service. Joe is survived by his wife of 55 years, Edith Haux Molfenter; son, Frank (Agnes) Molfenter of Travelers Rest, SC; daughter, Susan (Stephen) Jobe of Saint Simons Island, GA; and five grandchildren, Lauren & William Jobe and John, Cooper & Maia Molfenter. He is also survived by one brother, Michael (Margret) Molfenter of Pfullingen, Germany; and three nieces, Jeannette, Stefanie and Katrin. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Manfred Molfenter. The Molfenter & Jobe families would like to extend many thanks to Joe’s in-home health care provider of the past three years, Ms. Dorothy (“Dot”) Comley as well as to the health care professionals of Agape Hospice, Comfort Keepers of Spartanburg, and Mr. Jimmie Dunbar.
