Joan Annette Puckett Roach, 80, of Lyman, SC passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Born in Cedartown, GA on October 15, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Tom Townsend and Polly Wilkes Puckett. Growing up in Atlanta, GA, Joan graduated from Clarkston High School and attended Emory University. She moved to South Carolina where she met her husband, Troy Burnett Roach, and they became very involved in their community. She became a member of Fairforest Baptist Church in 1972 and Joan joined the Spartanburg Cristian Women’s Club shortly after. She attended the University of South Carolina Spartanburg and earned her Bachelor of Nursing. Joan had a long career helping people through nursing, including time with the Department of Corrections and 12 years as a Nursing Supervisor of ICU. Along with her husband, she is survived by her sons, Kenneth B. Lavender of Atlanta, GA, Gary E. Lavender of Arizona, Matthew T. Lavender (Kristen) of Houston, TX, Timothy S. Roach of Greenville, SC, Brian J. Roach of Greenville, SC, and Kenneth A. Roach of Liberty, SC; grandchildren, Linda Lavender, Kathleen Hansen, Noah Lavender, Luke Lavender, and Grace Lavender; and sister, Patti P. Gray of Gainesville, GA. She was predeceased by her brother, John T. Puckett, and a granddaughter, Katelyn Lavender. Joan’s funeral service will be 2:00pm on Saturday, January 6, 2023 in Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Visitation will follow the service. Burial will be 11:00 Monday, January 7, 2023 in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 14050 E. Wade Hampton Blvd, Greer, SC 29651.
