John E. Smith
Spartanburg, South Carolina - John Egerton Smith, 84, husband of Betty Ann Smith, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was the son of the late John Robert and Maude Egerton Smith. He was a graduate of Edison High School and graduated from St. Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Business. He served the Spartanburg and Greenville communities for 34 years with the Kmart Corporation. He was a member and Deacon of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He served at The Carpenter’s Table Food Bank Ministry and was a member of Tyger River Presbyterian Church. He also enjoyed being a part of The Piedmont Sertoma Club.
He had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, and was a faithful servant to all he encountered. He lived his life by 1st Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” He had a deep love for his wife of 61 years and his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family and was a good friend to many.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughters, Stacy Smith Parker (Bert) of Sumter and Lisa Smith Armbruster (John) of Spartanburg; and six grandchildren; Trey, Erin, Catherine, John Thomas, Bryant, and Olivia.
The family will have a private service to celebrate his life.
